Player Rating List - General Information |
||||
Date of Last Update : 9/25/07 The So Cal Classification Board is in the process of upgrading and making changes to the Player's List. The Board feels that these changes and upgrades will better serve all Teams and Players The following information is provided to explain the discipline and methodology that has been followed in the process of compiling the Player Lists. Roster Sources All contributing Associations have submitted final rosters from 2007 regular and post-season play for the upcoming 2008 season. Players from these rosters have been listed in their respective new divisions for 2008on the Player Rating List. Not all players that were listed on rosters of teams that have been reclassifed were put on the next higher Player List. A great time and effort has been given in looking over each roster and placing each player in their correct level of play. Certain players in which their teams were not moved up have been put on the next higher Player List. Also, other SoCal players who play on out-of-area teams have been incorporated into their appropriate classification on the Player List or placed on the appropriate list via instructions from Frank Vega and/or Sean Melvin. Military Players that play Varsity A will be placed at minimum on the C list or higher and players that Varsity B will be placed at a minimum of the D list or higher. Players that are on the ASA Armed Forces roster will be placed at a minimum of the B list or higher. A additional rating symbol has been adobted by the So Cal Players List. This symbol is the "+" rating, any player that has the "+" rating next to their letter rating will have the following effect. They will be able to play at their letter rating and not count as a chip at that level, if they drop one division then they will be counted as 2 chips. For example, if a C+ player is on a C roster he will not count as one of that teams chips but if this player is on a D roster that player will count as 2 chips. The field labeled
"Source" on the Player List report indicates N=NSA, A=ASA,
U=USSSA as to where roster info was obtained on a player. The "A/Open" Player List will include all players listed on the USSSA Major Player List regardless of the last season they may have played or the fact that they may now be retired. Any other player
from Southern California who played on an out-of-area Class "A"
or above team during 2007 is included on the "A/Open" Player
List. The B Player List The "B" Player List will include players listed on rosters for the 2007 C teams which have been moved to B for the 2008 season. Also players who are known to have played the majority of the season with these teams, yet did not appear on the final rosters have also been included. Southern California players who played for out-of-area "B" teams have been included on the "B" Player List. A final group of players who have been more or less inactive for the past season or two, but who are known to the SoCal Player List Committee to be of "B" level capabilities have also been included on the "B" Player List. The comment field
for these players shows "Inactive since 2000" or "Inactive
since 2001" .. or some such comment. Again, we did not want these
players falling thru the cracks and not appearing anywhere on the list.
We probably won't see most of these players ever again, but if we do,
they are always free to appeal their way off should they feel they should
no longer be considered of this talent level. The C Player List The "C" Player List will include players listed on rosters for the 2007 "D" teams which have been moved to "C" for the 2008season. The "C" Player List will also include players listed on rosters for the 2007 "C" teams which have not been moved up to "B" for the 2008 season. Also, players who are known to have played the majority of the season with these teams, yet did not appear on the final rosters have also been included as deemed appropriate. The "D" Player List The "D" Player List will include players listed on rosters for the 2007 "E" teams which have been moved to "D" for the 2008 season. The "D" Player List will also include players listed on rosters for the 2007 "D" teams which have not been moved up to "C" for the 2008 season. The "E" or Non Rated Player List he "E" Player List will also include players listed on rosters for the 2007 "E" teams which have not been moved up to "D" for the 2008 season.
1.) Player Restrictions The player list is not intended to prohibit any player from playing in a classification one step below his individual rating. The idea is to limit the total number of players playing below their classification that may be playing on a single team. Furthermore, the player lists are intended to be used as a tool to identify those teams which attempt to reform, change their name, avoid their reclassification and attempt to play back down in their old classification. These teams will be more readily identified with the assistance of the various player lists and will hopefully be dealt with accordingly. However, it is hoped that
these lists will be used to restrict players from playing down more
than one level without prior review and approval. 2). Player List Appeals It is understood that certain players' ability levels may not be commensurate with the classification under which they will be originally listed. For example, role players or coaches/sponsors who may get their names put into a certain classification based solely upon their affiliation to a team that was successful. There is no intention to keep such individuals unfairly classified or to restrict their opportunities to play. Therefore, an appeal process
has been established that will allow an individual player to get his
individual classification downgraded.
It is understood that the player lists are not a "cure-all" to the issue of classification. The associations retain
the right to classify teams based on Certain players who may deserve to be listed might have fallen through the cracks and initially been omitted from these lists. As such oversights are discovered, players will be added to their appropriate classifications. It is felt that the "A/Open" Player List and "B" Player List have identified 99% of the players who belong on such lists, while the "C" Player List have identified 95% of such players. Further questions can be directed to the appropriate state directors of each association.
